Costello
Costello the Dragon is 26 years old and the leader of the Dragon Squad of Aurora Mountain at the start of the series, weighing in at 800 lbs of solid muscle. He has been a part of the Aurora Mountain's Dragon Squad since he was 10 years old at the side of the previous Dragon Squad Leader, his late father, Torros.
While the rest of the Dragon Squad wears their uniforms with the Dragon Squad of Aurora Mountain's emblem on them, Costello does not -instead choosing to ink the Dragon Squad of Aurora Mountain's emblem on both his shoulders as a permanent reminder of everything he and his late father worked for and believe in.
Costello is dedicated to his work, willing to sacrifice anything and everything to achieve the dream he and his father believed the Dragon City of Aurora Mountain could become -a utopia, a shining city on a hill, a place where all animals could one day live together in prosperity, liberty, and equality for all. Though his father is gone, Costello is not alone in working towards this goal; for, he has a secret weapon known as his best friend and former Altri Tribe member named Kaiba. Together, they make an unstoppable force of teamwork.
Kaiba
Kaiba is married to a hyena named Petra and is the father of two. His children are twins, both aged 10 years old, and are named Trevor and Tisha. Kaiba is a reformed convict, having broke the law during his time and membership with Tribe Altri; and, had to serve five years for his crime when he arrived at the Aurora Mountain Dragon City in exchange for protection for his family. He feels guilt over his past mistakes, and wants better for others, like Karthrix, who are in the current position of serving Tribe Altri.
Tahtu
The physically strongest lion cub among all the cubs of Altri, Tahtu is not someone to tread on. That said, its actually pretty easy to get on his good side should you do, offering cupcakes topped with kiwi slices or just kiwis in general are the fastest way bribe him into his good graces and you will be immediately forgiven for whatever you've done to get on his bad side.
Tahtu is a closeted pyromaniac, obsessed with explosions, flamethrowers, fireworks, or things that go ka-boom in general. To be sure, if you need someone to blow something up, burn something down, or create the single greatest fireworks show ever-- Tahtu is the lion cub you need for the job. But, don't go thinking that Tahtu is just a physically strong meat head, because he is also very clever. Tahtu is good at deception and tricking others when he wants, as well as the art of keeping secrets.
Mowel
Mowel can act like a real jerk and a spoiled brat, but deep down he just wants friends and to be admired. He is his own worst enemy when it comes to achieving those goals, especially when he lets his low self esteem get to him and tries to soothe it by tearing others down (usually Karthrix).
Mowel is naturally dramatic and attention seeking, wanting validation from almost everyone he knows and throwing an even bigger attention seeking tantrum when he doesn't get what he wants. That said, Mowel isn't all bad -despite all his negative traits, he is very academically smart and well read. Math and science being Mowel's strong subjects, he has incredible problem solving and logic skills.
Noah
Despite being as nearly as physically strong as Tahtu and as academically smart as Mowel, Noah would rather spend his energy having fun and doing whatever he wants than competing to become the next future leader of Tribe Altri -much to the dismay of his father who is driven to his wits end by Noah's extreme lack of ambition. That said, Noah is easily the most emotionally mature lion cub of the group and is often the voice of reason.
Sarree and her Friends
Teebah, translated from River Tongue means 'to hold what you count', is 12 years old at the start of the series.
Sarree, translated from River Tongue means 'to multiply confusion', is 13 years old at the start of the series.
And, Autku, translated from River Tongue means 'to live in awe', is 11 years old at the start of the series. Sarree is very much the leader of her trio, a real tomboy that likes playing rough and competitively. Teebah is shy, but curious. She aspires to become a dainty lady of culture one day. And finally, last but certainly not least, there is Autku who is free spirited. She likes collecting gemstones and fossils as well as studying natural history and learning all there is to know about life on Earth.
Petra
An original resident of the old Dragon City of Aurora Mountain, she lived through and survived the great and terrible tragedy of the Aurora Mountain Fire that destroyed the old Dragon City.
Petra is not only a survivor, but was the main organizer and leader of Dragon City residents that protested and fought against the Altri Tribe, and for the rights of the dragons to rebuild their city on Aurora Mountain. Petra would soon fall in love with a then member of the Altri Tribe named Kaiba, and it was her love that brought him around to supporting the dragons of Aurora and abandoning the Altri Tribe. She would go on to legally represent Kaiba in his court case and ultimately got him his plea deal of only serving five years in exchange for protection for him and his family from the Tribe Altri; and, would go on to raise their children as a single mother until Kaiba's sentence was served. She continues her work to this day as an activist and legal defender.
Trevor
The older twin by only three minutes, Trevor very much tries to take charge and be the leader in any given situation.
A lover of nachos and mischief, he is often the ring leader of trouble making where he, his twin, and school friends are concerned.
He is a strong fighter and has incredible upper body strength given his large front lion paws and limbs, but a poor athlete when it comes to speed and jumping as his smaller hyena legs aren't strong enough to launch his lion heavy top half forward. (Sometimes even needing to jump twice just to get on the couch at home, but don't tell him I told you that.) A goofy kid to be sure, he likes puns, watching cartoons, and playing with his twin.
Tisha
Tisha loves teasing and trolling her friends. She can be a tattle tale sometimes, but often genuinely has other person's best interests at heart -not wanting the mischief or trouble making that she, her brother, and friends get into to ever go 'too far'.
Unlike her brother, Trevor, Tisha has the stronger lion back half and a lighter hyena front half allowing her to be an incredible athlete when it comes to speed and jumping, but has zero upper body strength and is a poor fighter.
But, she doesn't let that fact get to her -If you were to ask her, she'd tell you that fighting in general is dumb anyway and that there are plenty of better ways to spend your time; unless, it's her brother getting into ring with someone then she'll cheer him on as if he were the best that ever was. Aside from that, what you may not know about Tisha is that she is a card counter and uses that to her advantage in literally any card game she plays, making her a virtually unbeatable gambler -much to the disapproval of her mother Petra.
McKiel
McKiel is a very bitter and resentful lion, having worked for years to attain his high rank within the Altri Tribe and having little to show for it. Despite this, McKiel has done and will continue to do whatever it takes to amass power, wealth, and control for the Altri Tribe by whatever means necessary -friends and family be damned.
A strict traditionalist, McKiel sees everyone and everything in terms of how useful they can be used for his purposes, often treating those closest to him as pawns to be used, abused, and disposed of whenever necessary. Believing that the ways of the Altri Tribe are the ways the rest of the world should be run, McKiel unwilling to hear or accept other ideas foreign to the Tribe. McKiel hates the dragons of Aurora -especially Costello and his friend Petra who lured his son Kaiba away from the tribe and his future position as leader of the Altri Tribe that Mckiel worked hard for him to inherit.
Sophia
Sophia, like many from her tribe, is the descendant of ligers -half lion, half tiger hybrid ancestors that split away from the different lion tribes of the Northern River Valley and set up their own territory in Southern Hawk Plains, east of Hawk Lake River and surrounding the borders of both Hawk Lake and Greater Hawk Lake.
While the members of the Mekong Tribe are often referred to as lions, or as tigers, they are really neither at this point having evolved into their own unique big cat species. Descendants of this tribe are modern giants known for reaching massive sizes -900 lbs or more even. Sophia herself, much like her older son Kaiba, weighs in at a staggering 2,400 pounds. For comparison, a female forest elephant can weigh up to 4,000 lbs. These fierce big cats are not to be messed with, like Sophia, they are the ultimate feline warriors.
Axel
He is a member of the Mekong Tribe and is also the descendant of liger ancestors. Having earned his blue war paint, Axel has proved himself to be a valuable asset to the tribe and necessary in accomplishing missions on their behalf.
Axel is a natural teacher, coach, councilor, and mentor (especially to Karthrix). He is often there to give much needed support to others in need, and never fails to hope in others when they need it most. Aside from his work, Axel has a playful side, he enjoys competitive sports like playing games of bounce-ball with the other members of his tribe, swimming, hiking, boating, fishing, and holding week long camping trips during the spring.
The Elite Guard
Kainu, translated from River Tongue means 'Strong One'. Aiwar, translated from River Tongue means 'to have power in battle'. Ronu, translated from River Tongue means 'Swift One'; and, Barah, translated from River Tongue means 'to add up loyalty'.
Aiwar is the leader of this rag tag group and an accomplished shogi player. Kainu is a poet at heart, but doubles as the muscle of the group. Ronu is the speed -as in he is the speed the group needs as well as having an unquenchable need for speed and the feeling of wind in his mane. And well, Barah is there to mostly goof off and hang out with his friends -never taking anything seriously no matter how dire serious the situation may be.
The Council of Elders
Many of them were either directly involved with the original conflict with the dragons of Aurora or were much younger like Kaiba was when it started.
The Council of Elders is responsible for the decisions to hunt down and target all those who disagree or oppose their rule over the Northern River Valley, and by extension Aurora Mountain.
The Council of Elders instills its beliefs that lions are the superior apex predators to all other animal species into the younger generation of its cubs, so as to ensure they grow up to become obedient and willing to serve the council no matter what they are ordered to do. The Council of Elders believe that the entire Northern River Valley (including Aurora Mountain) territory belongs to them & only them.
Nigel
He, Nigel, has been part of the Altri Tribe as long as Karthrix's father McKiel, though the two of them (Nigel and McKiel) have had a long standing rivalry ever since he was passed up for the position on the Council of Elders that McKiel now occupies.
Weighing in at 600 lbs, Nigel is roughly the average size of the other adult members of his tribe. Nigel is soft spoken and sensitive, willing to sit and listen whenever anyone needs a shoulder to cry on. It is most likely (though never said out loud) that the reason the council passed up promoting Nigel to a position on the Council of Elders was due to his empathy and willing to listen to outside voices -making him appear weak in the narrow eyes of the elders who see the cruelty McKiel's regularly exhibits as a strength rather than a flaw. Nigel knows the council is evil and corrupt, but ultimately believes that it can be changed from within for the better if he were only given the chance.
Kairu
Kairu is cynical to fault, but obedient to the council nonetheless. Despite his father's influence, Kairu does not share the same optimism his father does when it comes to believing that the Council of Elders can change for the better. Instead, Kairu is very much of the belief that 'the world is the way it is, so why bother to try and change it when you can just as easily get by in it?'
This has led Kairu to advancing in rank within the Altri Tribe much faster than his father did at his age due to his willingness to follow orders no matter how dark or immoral. Nigel sees his son as a lost soul in need of guidance; and, Kairu wants nothing to due with his father as he grows to become more and more like the members of the Council of Elders and sees his fathers sensitivity, empathy, and willingness to listen as signs of weakness rather than signs of strength and grace.
The old Altri Tribe
TarHah, translated from River Tongue means 'to be full of laughter and optimism', and was 22 years old in this picture when it was taken. And, WuTix, in River Tongue roughly translates to 'to have many wishes', and was 24 years old in this picture. Both TarHah and WuTix would perish in the Aurora Mountain Fire shortly after this.
Prior to the tragic event known as The Aurora Mountain Fire that destroyed the original Dragon City of Aurora Mountain -these four served as the main patrol warriors of Altri who kept the peace across the Northern River Valley before the creation of the Council of Elders. Originally friends with the old Dragon Squad of Aurora Mountain and ambassadors of Tribe Altri to the dragons of Aurora, they were the unsung heroes of the valley.
The old Dragon Squad of Aurora Mountain
These five were the original Dragon Squad of Aurora Mountain prior to the Aurora Mountain Fire which would claim the lives of all in this photograph except for Costello, who would go on to rebuild the Aurora Mountain Dragon City and rebuild the Dragon Squad in his late father's memory. However, Costello wouldn't do it alone, together with his friends Kaiba and Petra they would make sure Aurora Mountain would continue on in the years and chaotic aftermath following the fire. Eventually, Costello would select new animals to become the new Dragon Squad of Aurora Mountain. Their names are Jeff the giraffe, Roy the ferret, Chess the mustang, Alli the alligator, and Marie the elderly dog.
